This is an article by JAWS the shark. This is the 6th installment of a series of driver face-offs that began at frontstretch.com, and were done by CAW and me together. But I am continuing the articles here at cawsnjaws.com myself.
We took the strengths and weaknesses of two drivers and tried to decide who would be the winner of a face-off. We got the idea from the show on the Discover channel called

Jeremy Says:
Jul 13, 03:39 PMI think you underestimated Jeremy Mayfield a little. If it weren’t for a little bit of bad luck at Texas and California, he would be in the top 10. He has challenged for more wins this year than someone like Kevin Harvick who gets more credit.

jerzerdhd Says:
Jul 13, 04:29 PMWeaknesses Jeremy Mayfield!
Not as skilled as other drivers. I believe it was Jeremy who avoided hitting Sterling Marlin and Stewart who put Kahne in the wall. Looks like Jeremy had the most skill.
Slow at most tracks. That is why he has led at about 10 of the 19 tracks and is 11th in points!
Not with Penske anymore. Personally I think this is a good thing.
Easy to pass to a high level. Yeah that is why it took Stewart 27 laps to do it Sunday and Jeremy had the older tires.
Slower and poorer performance than Kahne’s so far in Nextel Cup. Bull. Kahne has had the better crew chief who can dial the car in from the start and Jeremy has had to pass 3 times as many cars to get the same track positions.
Jeff Gordon tough to beat. Gordon is tough to beat for anyone. He has more money put into his cars then anyone else out there.
Several pit and Mechanical errors. I will give you that but they are not Jeremy’s fault.
Not as good as Robby Gordon at controlling a spin out. Well Robby has had more pracitce.
Not very fast. Do you even pay attention to the speeds. I suggest you get Track Pass because even in Traffic his speeds are the same as the leaders most of the time.
-
Andrea_19 Says:
Jul 13, 04:51 PMJeremy not being with penske any more is a good thing! As a matter of fact with the over all performance with the penske teams this year…. Ryan Newman is sitting 10th in points right now and Jeremy is 11th, BARELY out of the top ten. And Rusty is sitting 17th in points. That shows right there that Penske is not any better than Evernham.
and I think that Jerzerdhd summed the rest of it up and I will leave it at that so that there is not any duplications in comments.

I think you have totally underestimated Jeremy Mayfield and what he can achieve. If Jeremy would not have hit some of the bad luck he’s had this year he would definitely be in the top 10 without a doubt—Mark my words—-JEREMY MAYFIELD IS A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH-In the End he will be in the top 10

Jul 14, 01:03 PMI think jaws needs to stop writing just like the Jaws movies did. Jeremy and Kasey are both good drivers and it sure is easy for jaws to sit on his butt outside a car and comment until the end of time. Walk a mile in their shoes!!!!

Jul 14, 05:00 PMMan, sometimes people can be downright rude!!
Josh, if I had a dime for everytime someone disagrees with something I’ve written, well, I’d finally be making some money!!
Keep up the good work…if nothing else, you have inspired passion in some people, and that (in my opinion) is what writing is all about. Even if they don’t agree with you, they are speaking up. And reading!! :)

Jul 14, 08:07 PMGreat article. True Kasey has gained more headlines that Jeremy this year and in all honesty probably has more potential. Some think that because Jeremy has been in Cup for 6 or so years, he should’ve already done something if he was going to do it. Kasey’s still the kid with potential while Jeremy has the perception of being a mid-packer. Personally I think Jeremy could break out at any time especially if he could get some confidence. But going head to head with Kahne – Kahne definitely has the confidence advantage. He’d come out on top no doubt. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to next week’s battle.

People people people, this is JOSHS take on these two guys. He’s new at this and he does a great job.
That’s what makes this a great place. We ALL got to give out opinion without being burned at the stake.
So drop those matches!!LOL
Hang in there lil sugar. <>..<>
Oh and if I may say, I think Kasey is a tad cuter than Jeremy.

Jul 14, 09:17 PMJosh,
I think you did a great job! You clearly stated your opinion in a mature manner…too bad some of the people that disagreed with it didn’t state THEIRS in the same fashion. Keep your chin up and be proud of yourself!
-
Dennis Says:
Jul 14, 09:45 PMAlright Josh!!
Might not agree with ya 100% but that’s what makes racing fun…different opinions from seeing the same races!!
Loved your line about Kasey Kahne, “The king of Texas but, the fall of Bristol.”
Oh yeah…to the rude bugger above that told you to “Walk a mile in their shoes,” I invite him to do the same! In fact I invite him to e-mail me with HIS article and if it is any good at all I will make sure it gets posted on www.frontstretch.com!
That’s also the dumbest comment. No I can’t drive a car like they can because that isn’t my job! Your writing style is wonderful and the more experience you get the better you will get too!

-
Dennis Says:
Jul 14, 09:54 PMOoops…one more thing Josh…notice that most of the criticism came from Mayfield fans.
Whenever you write something comparing two drivers you will always get fans of the guy you had ranked lower ripping your opinion up. I couldn’t send you half of the e-mails I got from Wally Dallenbach fans this week, after all this is a FAMILY SITE and rated PG!!
Keep up the great work and keep ticking them off…if you strike a nerve then you gave them something to talk about too!!

Jul 14, 10:00 PMGreat job Josh-
and againit is not necessary for people to be rudethey’re entitled to their own opinions but they should be obligated to express them like mature adults. Shame they can’t be bothered to do that. As for walking a mile in their shoes, I’d challenge any of them to walk a mile in yours. I don’t see them walking a mile in any of our shoes and putting their opinions out there for the world to judge. Besides, look at all those responsesthat means they all came here and read what you had to say. Dale Earnhardt never minded being booedhe figured it means at least the fans cared one way or the otherit was silence from the crowd that meant it was all over for you…I think you did a great job-keep it up!

Jul 14, 10:35 PMHey Josh, great article!
Keep it up and don’t let the people who disagree with you get you down. The ones that are polite about it can teach you some things. And for the ones that aren’t, well you get to help them by providing their only outlet for building their poor self esteem, crushed by years of failures and disappointments.
Me, I live for hate mail! lol

Jamie Says:
Jul 14, 10:40 PMI am not really a fan of either Jeremy or Kasey. I’m a Rudd chick all the way. But you really should do some research before posting articles if you want to be taken serious.
Example under Kasey Kahne you wrote
Weak at Dover.
He was one of the best cars there and would of most likely won if not for oil on the track.
Another example regarding Mayfiled you wrote
Slower and poorer performance than Kahne’s so far in Nextel Cup
If you even took 10 seconds to compare driver vs driver on nascar.com you would see that Kahne has an average finish of 18.67 and Jeremy has an average finish of 16.61.
Out of the 18 races this season Jeremy has placed better than Kahne in 12 of those 18.
Most of the other things you say are just opinion and i dont agree with most of them. But please get the facts straight at least. But overall your article was at least good for a laugh.

Great article! I am so proud of you – you have come so far in your writing. I remember all your interviews and now here YOU are being linked on Jayski!
Unfortunately, people are more likely to respond when they disagree…which is why some Jeremy Mayfield fans have responded like they have. Just take it as a compliment – they are reading and you are making them think! That is a sign of a great journalist!
Keep up the good work Josh – can’t wait to see your next piece!
Love and hugs,

Jul 15, 10:59 AMyou’re comments about Jeremy racing around on his grandmothers lawn is totally not true. I know, I was with Jeremy for 10 years, before he moved up to Nascar. Jeremys grandmother hardly ever came around. They didn’t have much of a relationship. As for has the rest of the article, some of it might be true, somewhat.

Jul 15, 08:12 PMJosh, great job on your article. It’s ok if some people disagree with you. If everyone always had the same opinion, or if everyone all liked the same driver, watching the races would not be much fun.

As to that comment (question above) concerning Tony vs. Kasey…I think we have seen it twice so far this year at least, seems to me that Kasey has come out on the raw end of the deal each time. Can you spell C-R-A-S-H-E-D? Lol.

Jul 16, 10:10 PMHi Josh,
I just read your article. I’ll tell you right up front – I AM a Jeremy Mayfield fan. I won’t rip on you because based on the content and the comments of your cronies, it seems as though you are new to this – so…
1st – good for you to try and carry on with the traditions from the past site.
Now – down to business. Simply reading it over once – it seems incredibly shallow…. No offense intended but 2 examples that you simply did not spend much time on this are:
– You list Kasy as being good under pressure and then in his weakness list – you state that he is not good under pressure. Well – which one is it….?
And – For Jeremy – you state in his strenghts that he is a skilled driver and then in his weaknesses – he is not as skilled as other drivers…... Well – again – which one is it….?
Duh – I’ll go out on a limb here – He is not as skilled as Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson and Tony Stewart – so I guess you are correct – he’s not as skilled “as other drivers”. Your comment doesn’t say very much.
It is clear to me that you do not follw these guys very much or you would have also mentioned Jeremy’s dogs as another strength because I’m sure they also lend him moral support throughout a race just as Shana (his wife) does.
I will not rip on you other than to comment that your article does not say very much to the informed and knowledgeable people out there. But good for you to keep your comparisons going. I guess it’s tough if you do not know and follow each driver closely as there is so much to use as input.
If I had the time – I’d actually like to try and write an informed comparison for your buddie – The Hawk. This would be something for someone like a Jayski to try!
Thanks though!

Jul 16, 10:34 PMhhhhmmm. I’m thinking it might be helpful to have a ‘Who is JAW?’ article.
Here’s some basics, until I put that together: JAW is Joshua, a 16 yr-old heavy-duty NASCAR fan from southwestern PA.
As he carries several neurological and mental health disabilites/disorders, including Tourette Syndrome, it’s important to him to get Tourette Syndrome awareness out there. His knowledge of his disabilities and desire to talk about them, as well as his knowledge of racing, caught the eye of Dennis Michelsen of www.frontstretch.com. He gave us a forum over there (http://www.frontstretch.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=16), which became popular enough that the folks at Frontstretch gave us our own website, which is where you are right now.
Due to the many other things Joshua has written with me or by himself (including interviews of such folks as Mike Joy), he’s met lots of drivers and racing luminaries. We’ll be the special guests at the Daytona 500 in February of 2005. Make sure you look for us!!!
There’s still a lot about Josh you should know, but it’s too much for this little posting area. I think I’ll do a complete article about him ASAP. I hope every single one of the readers here returns to read it.
I send this invitation to read this article about Joshua out especially to the Mayfield fans that have been posting about him at their message boards, that have been calling him names that I know their mothers didn’t teach them. Seriously folks. How could one young man’s words cause you such distress, and cause you to be so verbally abusive?
I’ll get on the article as fast as I can folks.

Jul 18, 12:09 AMAfter reading the article, I have only a few comments. While I commend the young man who wrote it,
Team Mayfield members will point out any inaccuracies when it comes to Jeremy. We are NOT a malicious group of people, actually we are the complete opposite. We would give anyone the last dime in our pocket or shirt off our backs!

Just found where Cheryl(caw)wrote about you. I am not a malicious person and would not ever had made a comment to hurt you personally. I take the blame for not researching more about this site and authors before commenting. I thought it was a site visited by many that knew who the authors were and went with it. I hope you and others can accept my apologies for not using the brain God gave me before the mouth he gave me.
