– 2016 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400 edition

Date: 9-18-16

Racetrack: Chicagoland Speedway

Pole Sitter: Kyle Busch

  • Martin Truex Jr.: Martin won the race and locked himself into the next round of the Chase. He looks like a contender for the final four Chasers this season.
  • Joey Logano: Joey set himself up to make it to the next round on points even if he doesn’t win. He got second place in the race and is off to a good Chase start.
  • Chase Elliott: Chase was close to winning this race and ended up third. He got beat by Martin Truex Jr. on the final pit stops to lose an almost certain race win.
  • Ryan Blaney: Ryan stayed out of the pits on the final caution and got a great fourth-place finish. If more people stayed out with him he would have possibly won.
  • Alex Bowman: Alex had one of his best runs since filling in for Dale Jr. He got a top-ten.
  • Brad Keselowski: Brad got a top-five in the first Chase race. He will be going for the final round of the Chase to make it there with his teammate.

Pole Sitter: Denny Hamlin

  • Denny Hamlin: Denny started on pole and won the race. He almost led the most laps for a full point’s bonus. He now has three wins. He starts the Chase only three points out of first.
  • Chris Buescher: Chris finished on the lead lap and did enough to secure his top-thirty points finish. He got in the Chase.
  • Michael McDowell: Michael got a top-twelve finish as an attempt to get into the Chase. It was one of his best runs of the year.
  • Kyle Larson: Kyle finished second and almost won two races to get into the Chase. He is fully ready for the Chase now.
  • Martin Truex Jr. Martin led the most laps and just came up short on three Chase wins. He got a strong third though.
  • Jamie McMurray: Jamie got into the Chase on points. He got a good top-ten finish. He will add two cars for Ganassi Racing into the Chase.

Racetrack: Darlington Raceway

Pole Sitter: Kevin Harvick

  • Martin Truex Jr.: Martin won the race. He took advantage of Kevin Harvick’s bad late pit stop to get it done. He got a second Chase win giving him momentum into the Chase.
  • Kyle Larson: Kyle was close to back-to-back wins in third. He led some laps and was almost there. If he had won it would have been a Chip Ganassi weekend sweep with Scott Dixon winning the IndyCar race.
  • Joey Logano: Joey got a top-five finish. He didn’t lead a lap but capitalized on the last pit stop. He got great track position for a good finish.
  • Kevin Harvick: Kevin added more to his first part of the season points lead. He led the most laps and was second. He was one pit stop away from bettering his Darlington Driver Rating. They had his rating at number two which is where he finished.
  • Kasey Khane: Kasey got a strong finish for his Chase bid. If he were to win next week he could get in. This good finish could help him get there.
  • Chase Elliott: Chase almost mathematically secured a Chase spot over Ryan Newman. Newman is the only driver out of the Chase on points that could mathematically catch him. Newman also failed a race inspection the takes a minimum of ten points off of where he is at. As a repeat offender he could get more points off than that, locking Chase in before the next race.

Racetrack: Michigan International Speedway

Pole Sitter: Joey Logano

  • Kyle Larson: Kyle won the race. He led the most laps after he and Chase Elliott were rain racing. Chase wanted his first win, too; but Kyle beat him to it. He gave a crazy burnout hurting his tires and car. He didn’t care though. That got him in the Chase and gave a boost to Chip Ganassi.
  • Chase Elliott: Chase led a bunch of laps in second place. He thought he won until the caution came out. On the next restart he picked the wrong lane in my opinion to get that push for the win. He is pretty close to making the Chase on points too.
  • Ryan Blaney: Ryan got a nice top-five finish in the race. He didn’t want to push his rookie rival Chase Elliott to a win. Therefore on the restart he dropped back from a potential top-two finish.
  • Greg Biffle: Greg got one of his better finishes of this year. For Roush Racing the entire season has been a disappointment. Greg is still fighting for positions.
  • Carl Edwards: Carl is in the Chase and had a good top-ten finish. He was coming off some races where he had bad luck. He will feel better with a solid run.
  • Brad Keselowski: Brad has four wins this season. His top-five finish is no surprise. He has been running better than his teammate this year.

Racetrack: Bristol Motor Speedway

Pole Sitter: Carl Edwards

  • Kevin Harvick: Kevin led the second most laps and won the race. He benefited from Kyle Busch and other contenders crashing. He was left with Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who he had no problem beating. He added a Chase win and retook the points lead from Brad Keselowski.
  • Ricky Stenhouse Jr.: Ricky got second place in the race. He most likely would not have finished there if ten of the top eleven cars hadn’t had problems.
  • Austin Dillon: Austin was another car to benefit from the carnage of the race. Unlike Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who is far outside the Chase, Austin was all but ensuring a Chase berth on points.
  • Chris Beuscher: Chris’s pace was really good even if he benefited from crashes to his rivals. He was a top-fifteen car for the first time all year. He most importantly got into the top 30 in points by a big 13 points.
  • Jamie McMurray: Jamie drove a good consistent race to help secure his Chase berth. He is also likely to make the Chase on points.
  • Denny Hamlin: Denny was the only top ten driver other than Kevin Harvick not to crash. He did get a pit penalty that kept him from challenging Kevin Harvick. He got a top-five finish.

Date: 8-7-16

Racetrack: Watkins Glen International

Pole Sitter: Carl Edwards

  • Denny Hamlin: Denny won the race for Gibbs’ tenth win of the season. The rest of NASCAR teams’ other wins are 12. They have almost as many wins as one team as the rest of NASCAR combined. He got the lead after teammate Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski went wide at turn one.
  • Joey Logano: Joey was second in the race. He had damage on the car from contact. He might have been able to challenge Denny Hamlin for the win without the damage. Due to other drivers’ problems he got a very good second-place considering his damage to the car. He won the Xfinity race the day before and got second in the Cup race.
  • Brad Keselowski: Brad had the race won until he went too deep into turn one on a restart. He led the most laps and got a top-five finish. He is also tied for the most wins this season heading into the Chase.
  • AJ Allmendinger: AJ had his best run of the year in fourth place. He needed the win for the Chase so it was bittersweet.
  • Jamie McMurray: Jamie is in the Chase at the moment on points. He got a good top-ten finish to extend his lead over the cutoff.
  • Casey Mears: Casey got one of his best finishes of the year after running strong. He stayed out of trouble and had some decent pace. His team is much faster this year than before.

Date: 8-1-16

Racetrack: Pocono Raceway

Pole Sitter: Martin Truex Jr.

  • Chris Buescher: Chris pitted at the right time to stay out later in the race. As the main pack was catching him before he was going to pit a bank of fog covered part of the track. That turned out to be the end of the race over an hour later. As the fog covered everything to the point of no visibility Chris won the race. He had been the leader at the time of caution. It was a big win for him and owner Bob Jenkins. He might make the Chase and he got the team’s outright second win since 2013.
  • Brad Keselowski: Brad was in position to win if there were no red flag. He got second and a good points day.
  • Regan Smith: Regan got lucky like Chris Buescher from the fog and finished third. It was a big race for that team compared to where they usually run.
  • Kevin Harvick: Kevin got another top-five finish towards the Chase. He is the points leader and extending his lead.
  • Kyle Larson: Kyle could have also won without the fog but the team waited too long to pit him. He was behind the guys that were chasing him. Kyle did lead laps and almost won the race. He got a top-ten finish.
  • Denny Hamlin: Denny got the best finish for Gibbs in the race. He got a top-ten but he almost feels like the team is capable of winning every race.

Racetrack: Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Pole Sitter: Kyle Busch

  • Kyle Busch: Kyle won the race. He became the first driver ever to win the pole and the race, for the Xfinity Series and Cup Series, in the same weekend.
  • Kyle Larson: Kyle ran around the top-five the whole race. He finished in fifth place. He was trying to lock himself in the Chase with a win.
  • Austin Dillon: Austin had a good car in the race and passed a bunch of drivers. It ultimately led to a top-ten finish. He was another driver that needed Chase points.
  • Paul Menard: Paul always runs pretty well at this track, as a former winner. He got a decent finish but he ran well inside the top-ten at one point.
  • Jeff Gordon: Jeff did well coming off the couch in extreme conditions. He drove a car that may have been good enough for a twentieth finish close to the top-ten. Just like Tony Stewart he had a victory lap to celebrate his possible last race there. He never had a car that could contend for the win which was a shame for the moment he was in.
  • Chris Buescher: Chris had a great run in his B-Team Cup ride near the top-ten. He is advertising for a better ride in Cup.

Racetrack: New Hampshire Motor Speedway

Pole Sitter: Jimmie Johnson

  • Matt Kenseth: Matt won the race and proved the Gibbs dominance at this track lately. He was happy to win over teammate Kyle Busch to get all the credit.
  • Joey Logano: Joey got another top-five finish and is well seated in the Chase. He will be ready for elimination rounds to have better luck at advancing.
  • Kevin Harvick: Kevin finished fourth in the race. That was very important for his points lead. With his challengers having problems Kevin made ground in the points.
  • Jamie McMurray: Jamie almost got a top-five while going for a Chase spot. He needed a win and came pretty close this week. He might be able to break through like Tony Stewart did with a win.
  • Kyle Busch: Kyle led 133 laps today inside the top-ten. This was a good run for Kyle but he missed out on a weekend sweep.
  • The Love Birds (Danica Patrick and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.): Danica and Ricky got good finishes inside the top-fifteen. The both ran well and these were two of their best finishes.

Pole Sitter: Kevin Harvick

  • Brad Keselowski: Brad led a bunch of laps on route to the win. He didn’t lead the most laps but he got out front at the end.
  • Ryan Newman: Ryan backed up his good runs as of late to secure third place. He is closing in on a Chase spot. It will be the third straight year he will have gotten in the Chase on points.
  • Greg Biffle: Greg got a top-ten and is getting better finishes for Roush Racing at times. The team still hasn’t gotten back to top form in several years.
  • Martin Truex Jr.: Martin has had bad races at times compared to earlier this year. He got a solid top-ten finish to stay well in the Chase.
  • Danica Patrick: Danica had one of her better runs this year in the top-twenty. She survived all the big wrecks and got a decent finish.
  • Jeffery Earnhardt: Jeffery had one of his best runs this year cracking the top thirty. He also was less than ten laps down. Earlier this year the team was finishing races more than ten laps down. It is a team improvement on pace.
