JAW’s ‘HEARTRACERS / HEARTBREAKERS’
– 2016 Pure Michigan 400 Edition

Date: 8-28-16

Racetrack: Michigan International Speedway

Pole Sitter: Joey Logano

HEARTRACERS:

  • Kyle Larson: Kyle won the race. He led the most laps after he and Chase Elliott were rain racing. Chase wanted his first win, too; but Kyle beat him to it. He gave a crazy burnout hurting his tires and car. He didn’t care though. That got him in the Chase and gave a boost to Chip Ganassi.
  • Chase Elliott: Chase led a bunch of laps in second place. He thought he won until the caution came out. On the next restart he picked the wrong lane in my opinion to get that push for the win. He is pretty close to making the Chase on points too.
  • Ryan Blaney: Ryan got a nice top-five finish in the race. He didn’t want to push his rookie rival Chase Elliott to a win. Therefore on the restart he dropped back from a potential top-two finish.
  • Greg Biffle: Greg got one of his better finishes of this year. For Roush Racing the entire season has been a disappointment. Greg is still fighting for positions.
  • Carl Edwards: Carl is in the Chase and had a good top-ten finish. He was coming off some races where he had bad luck. He will feel better with a solid run.
  • Brad Keselowski: Brad has four wins this season. His top-five finish is no surprise. He has been running better than his teammate this year.

HEARTBREAKERS:

  • Clint Bowyer: Clint was in last place with his car being off-track for a long while. He has had a disappointing year in his new team.
  • Landon Cassill: Landon had a suspension failure in the race. He ended the race as the only retirement. Sometimes he has problems like this.
  • Chris Buescher: Chris thought that he was going to make ground on the No. 23 car in the points. If he got a top-fifteen finish he would almost clinch a top-thirty spot in the points. He was looking good for the Chase until he had motor problems. Now his lead over thirtieth shrunk.
  • Alex Bowman: Alex also had motor problems that dropped him out of the top-five. He could have been a threat for the win until his problem.
  • Brian Scott: Brian has not achieved what he thought he was going to do in his rookie season. He has not been up to Aric Almirola or higher in races.
  • Kyle Busch: Kyle had a car that could contend for a top-five finish. He spun in the grass and ended up 19th.

Tony Stewart – SPECIAL SECTION

HEARTRACERS:

  • Tony is pretty much into the Chase now and doesn’t have to worry about a poor day yet.

HEARTBREAKERS:

  • Tony looked strong from qualifying that he would continue to contend inside the top-ten. He did not contend all day like he thought he would.
