JAW’s ‘HEARTRACERS / HEARTBREAKERS’
– 2016 Pennsylvania 400 edition

Date: 8-1-16

Racetrack: Pocono Raceway

Pole Sitter: Martin Truex Jr.

HEARTRACERS:

  • Chris Buescher: Chris pitted at the right time to stay out later in the race. As the main pack was catching him before he was going to pit a bank of fog covered part of the track. That turned out to be the end of the race over an hour later. As the fog covered everything to the point of no visibility Chris won the race. He had been the leader at the time of caution. It was a big win for him and owner Bob Jenkins. He might make the Chase and he got the team’s outright second win since 2013.
  • Brad Keselowski: Brad was in position to win if there were no red flag. He got second and a good points day.
  • Regan Smith: Regan got lucky like Chris Buescher from the fog and finished third. It was a big race for that team compared to where they usually run.
  • Kevin Harvick: Kevin got another top-five finish towards the Chase. He is the points leader and extending his lead.
  • Kyle Larson: Kyle could have also won without the fog but the team waited too long to pit him. He was behind the guys that were chasing him. Kyle did lead laps and almost won the race. He got a top-ten finish.
  • Denny Hamlin: Denny got the best finish for Gibbs in the race. He got a top-ten but he almost feels like the team is capable of winning every race.

HEARTBREAKERS:

  • Martin Truex Jr.: Martin had what might have been the race’s best car instead of Kevin Harvick. His pit crew knocked off the inner valve steam to blow his right front tire. After he hit the wall the car kept cutting more tires down. He eventually retired from either the damage or he was unable to pass anybody else.
  • Reed Sorenson: Reed finished last from what could be an engine failure. It also could be a start-and-park.
  • Aric Almirola: Aric crashed into the remarkably fast Jeb Burton who was way higher in the field than normal. I don’t know whose fault it was but it destroyed both cars.
  • Jeb Burton: Jeb got put on this list due to the fact he was having the team’s best race outside a restrictor track this season. He had a crash to ruin it.
  • Chase Elliott: Chase got loose under Joey Logano and wrecked both cars. Joey has a Chase win but Kyle doesn’t. Chase is also possibly behind Chris Buscher in the Rookie standings if Chris gains six opposition points. Then Chris will move ahead of Chase in the standings that Chase had dominated.
  • Greg Biffle: Greg was untouchable out front for 14 laps until he got passed. Then he dropped like a stone and ultimately finished 25th.

Tony Stewart – SPECIAL SECTION

HEARTRACERS:

  • Tony got a top-five finish. He is close to securing that top-thirty points finish.

HEARTBREAKERS:

  • Tony has been having lots of good runs lately. All I can say is he didn’t win another race.
