JAW’s ‘HEARTRACERS / HEARTBREAKERS’
– 2016 Combat Wounded Coalition 400 edition

Date: 7-24-16

Racetrack: Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Pole Sitter: Kyle Busch

HEARTRACERS:

  • Kyle Busch: Kyle won the race. He became the first driver ever to win the pole and the race, for the Xfinity Series and Cup Series, in the same weekend.
  • Kyle Larson: Kyle ran around the top-five the whole race. He finished in fifth place. He was trying to lock himself in the Chase with a win.
  • Austin Dillon: Austin had a good car in the race and passed a bunch of drivers. It ultimately led to a top-ten finish. He was another driver that needed Chase points.
  • Paul Menard: Paul always runs pretty well at this track, as a former winner. He got a decent finish but he ran well inside the top-ten at one point.
  • Jeff Gordon: Jeff did well coming off the couch in extreme conditions. He drove a car that may have been good enough for a twentieth finish close to the top-ten. Just like Tony Stewart he had a victory lap to celebrate his possible last race there. He never had a car that could contend for the win which was a shame for the moment he was in.
  • Chris Buescher: Chris had a great run in his B-Team Cup ride near the top-ten. He is advertising for a better ride in Cup.

HEARTBREAKERS:

  • Matt DiBenedetto: Matt ran four laps of the race before his engine let go. He felt like Tony Stewart in the 2002 Daytona 500.
  • Greg Biffle: Greg was the first car out of the race due to a crash. He finished second to last and added to several bad weeks.
  • AJ Allmendinger: AJ was in need of points towards making the Chase. His overheating problem due to an accident didn’t help his cause.
  • Carl Edwards: Carl was so quick that he might have been able to upset Kyle Busch. He got a bad restart and was hit in the back. He had a massive crash and it was disappointing after starting second in the race.
  • Ryan Blaney: Ryan is continuing to fade away from putting any challenge to Chase Elliott for the Rookie Title. He had a crash and is now a devastating amount of points behind Chase in weaker equipment.
  • Patrick Carpentier: Patrick was the slowest car in the field. He stayed last of the cars with no problems.
