JAW’s ‘HEARTRACERS / HEARTBREAKERS’
– 2016 Quaker State 400 edition

Date: 7-9-16

Racetrack: Kentucky Speedway

Pole Sitter: Kevin Harvick

HEARTRACERS:

  • Brad Keselowski: Brad led a bunch of laps on route to the win. He didn’t lead the most laps but he got out front at the end.
  • Ryan Newman: Ryan backed up his good runs as of late to secure third place. He is closing in on a Chase spot. It will be the third straight year he will have gotten in the Chase on points.
  • Greg Biffle: Greg got a top-ten and is getting better finishes for Roush Racing at times. The team still hasn’t gotten back to top form in several years.
  • Martin Truex Jr.: Martin has had bad races at times compared to earlier this year. He got a solid top-ten finish to stay well in the Chase.
  • Danica Patrick: Danica had one of her better runs this year in the top-twenty. She survived all the big wrecks and got a decent finish.
  • Jeffery Earnhardt: Jeffery had one of his best runs this year cracking the top thirty. He also was less than ten laps down. Earlier this year the team was finishing races more than ten laps down. It is a team improvement on pace.

HEARTBREAKERS:

  • Ricky Stenhouse Jr.: Ricky has had good runs inside the top-ten this year or races where he crashes. He has been focused on in my reports very often this year for good and bad results. He is on the bad end again finishing last due to a crash on lap nine. On Bobby Labonte last week I mentioned his struggles this year but I didn’t mention that the wrecks he has been in are usually not of his making. Ricky has gotten involved in other peoples’ problems a lot this year. If there is a stack up and one car spins there is a high percentage chance that Ricky would get punted.
  • The Rookie Class Contenders: Ryan Blaney & Chase Elliott: Both rookie contenders this year with a shot at that title had a lot to gain if the other crashed. They took each other off and didn’t gain much from it.
  • Matt DiBenedetto: Matt was a victim of another wreck this year and that total is rising. He has been in many wrecks this year.
  • AJ Allmendinger: AJ is trying to make the Chase on points but he crashed the last two weeks. That could be enough for him to miss it this year.
  • Chris Buescher: Chris was mentioned this year for potentially not succeeding in his Cup opportunity. With these bad finishes continuing he may have to explore his options in the future.
  • Joey Logano: So far, Joey has had a very different season compared to what he had last year. He and Brad Keselowski were both winning races all year and were contending in the Chase. So far Brad has done much more winning and finishing well. Joey was out in 39th place with another crash.

Tony Stewart – SPECIAL SECTION

HEARTRACERS:

  • Tony got a top-five finish to help secure his Chase Spot. After his rebound from the Daytona crash he is back on pace for the top-thirty.

HEARTBREAKERS:

  • Tony will be pleased with this result so you can only say he missed out on a win.
