JAW’s ‘HEARTRACERS / HEARTBREAKERS’
– 2016 FireKeepers Casino 400 edition

Date: 6-12-16

Racetrack: Michigan International Speedway

Pole Sitter: Joey Logano

HEARTRACERS:

  • Joey Logano: Joey and his fans were still looking for a points win since the Chase last year. Joey and his fans have been frustrated since the Chase went wrong for him last season. In this race he won from pole after leading the most laps. He and his fans will now have great satisfaction with this win. Joey is now in the Chase.
  • Chase Elliott: Chase got the closest to a win yet in his rookie year. He was second after leading some laps. If he wins he will be way ahead of where Jeff Gordon was in his rookie year. It is of note that Chase has yet to tear up ten cars like Jeff Gordon did in his rookie season.
  • Kyle Larson: Kyle had another great race in a row this week in third. He is turning his season around to where he could possibly make the Chase.
  • Carl Edwards: Carl has two wins towards the Chase and is locked in. He was running better earlier in the year when he got is two wins. He and Gibbs Racing have trailed off a bit on pace since then. He did get a solid finish in this race.
  • Jamie McMurray: Jamie was around the top-ten where he usually sits. He hasn’t been much worse this season but he also hasn’t spiked in races like his teammate Kyle Larson. His consistency and non-crashes have kept him in the Chase and Larson out.
  • Chris Buescher: Chris is driving for a once back-marking team for Bob Jenkins. Now they get finishes around the top-twenty quite often. They have gone far. He finished in 20th place.

HEARTBREAKERS:

  • Kyle Busch: Kyle has three Chase wins and is in a position where some bad finishes don’t matter. His problem is he has been having a lot of crashes or engine failures. His team’s pace has dropped since the beginning of the year. He is in a position of getting knocked out of the Chase if Gibbs Racing doesn’t improve. He finished last this week from an engine failure.
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Dale has bounced up and down the charts the past few weeks. He is in the Chase on points but doesn’t have a win yet. He crashed in the race and finished at the back.
  • Jeffery Earnhardt: Jeffery had two crashes not far apart in the race causing him to retire. He also struggles with speed in that team; often over ten laps down a race.
  • Brian Scott: Brian has not fared well in his full-time Cup effort for R.P.M. He has had crashes and been a lot slower than teammate Aric Almirola. He got into another crash this week.
  • Denny Hamlin: Denny also has been suffering from a fall-off of Gibbs pace recently. He crashed this time on top of that.
  • Casey Mears: Casey was in a crash on lap 156 of the race. He repaired his car and finished many laps down. He usually gets a mid-pack finish so this will lower his season stats.
