JAW’s ‘HEARTRACERS / HEARTBREAKERS’
– 2016 GEICO 500 edition

Date: 5-1-16

Racetrack: Talladega Superspeedway

Pole Sitter: Chase Elliott

HEARTRACERS:

  • Brad Keselowski: Brad won the race leading the most laps. He was untouchable out in the lead.
  • Austin Dillon: Austin got as good as a finish as brother Ty did filling in for Tony Stewart. They both got top-ten finishes missing the wrecks.
  • Jamie McMurray: Jamie has had the better runs this year than his teammate Kyle Larson. Jamie is much more consistent and get the best finishes. He was right there in the top-ten again.
  • Chase Elliott: Chase has had the best pace in some qualifying sessions but has been unable to close races out yet. He got a top-ten finish but he wants to win.
  • Michael Waltrip: Michael did a classic job of getting a bottom tier car a top-twenty finish at a restrictor plate race.
  • Cole Whitt: Cole took the slowest car all year that is lapped over ten times a race to a top twenty finish.

HEARTBREAKERS:

  • Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Dale was the first car out of the race due to a crash. He is at his best type of track so that hurt his win chances.
  • Kasey Kane: Kasey was the second car out of the race due to a crash. He made it a bottom two for Hedrick Motorsports.
  • Matt Kenseth: Matt flipped wildly in his crash so I included him in this list for that reason.
  • Kyle Larson: Kyle is getting beat badly by his teammate in almost every race and crashing out here didn’t help him.
  • Ryan Newman: Ryan has been mid-pack all year so he often isn’t on either HEART list. He was in a crash so he got a spot on the ‘HEARTBREAKER’ list this week.
  • Michael Annett: Michael was a slow car that crashed and is the only driver from that category on this list. He was third-to-last.

Tony Stewart – SPECIAL SECTION

HEARTRACERS:

Tony started the race and got credit for a top-ten finish. Ty Dillon drove Tony’s car the rest of the race. He missed all of the late crashes.

HEARTBREAKERS:

Tony was still not well enough to get the top-ten by himself.
