JAW’s ‘HEARTRACERS / HEARTBREAKERS’
– 2016 Food City 500 edition

Date: 4-17-16

Racetrack: Bristol Motor Speedway

Pole Sitter: Carl Edwards

HEARTRACERS:

  • Carl Edwards: Carl led the most laps and won from pole this week. His pit crew was also the fastest throughout the race. He had the number one pit stall and won almost every race off of pit road. In the end he was flawless and his team was mistake-free.
  • Kurt Busch: Kurt led 41 laps and finished third. He is in the Chase with consistency. He will hope to win a race but even if he doesn’t it looks like he will get in the Chase on points.
  • Chase Elliott: Chase is working his way towards a win with another top-five. He is also having a better rookie season than Jeff Gordon did. The man he replaced was Rookie of the Year in 1993. He also crashed ten times that season.
  • Trevor Bayne: Trevor was in the top-five after a good run for Roush Racing. They have been up and down as a team this year. If you didn’t know years ago they were dead even with Hendrick on dominance. They have fallen far.
  • Matt DiBenedetto: Matt got a shocking sixth-place finish for Burger King Racing. He really showed off this week.
  • Landon Cassill: Landon led 40 laps and got a mid-pack finish. That is a huge step forward from where he was last season.

HEARTBREAKERS:

  • Reed Sorenson: Reed had suspension failure during the race. He was in last position. He seems to be running or finishing last lately.
  • David Ragan: David had engine failure and finished 39th. His teammate Matt DiBenedetto was in the top-ten. It was a huge blow to his potential advancement into better NASCAR teams.
  • Kyle Busch: Kyle was the winner the last two races. He was at Bristol where he wins a lot. He crashed through and ended up a HeartBreaker this week.
  • Matt Kenseth: Matt led 142 laps before he crashed on lap 188 of the race. It was a double blow to Joe Gibbs Racing because of Kyle Busch’s crash.
  • Kyle Larson: Kyle crashed on lap 148 of the race and was not able to get a good finish. He has been up and down this season leaving him so far out of the Chase he may have to win a race.
  • Aric Almirola: Aric crashed as another up and down driver this year. He is on and off so much that you can’t read the direction of this team.

SPECIAL NOTE: Danica Patrick crashed with a car that was many laps down while she was a lead lap car. She was also hooked by Kasey Kane a few races ago. This has been happening on occasion with the contact sport rule being in effect. If you are a fan of NASCAR and you judge that drivers are exploiting that rule because she is a woman then send in your complaints to NASCAR.
