JAW’s ‘HEARTRACERS / HEARTBREAKERS’
– 2016 Kobalt 400 edition

Date: 3-6-2016

Racetrack: Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Pole Sitter: Kurt Busch

HEARTRACERS:

  • Brad Keselowski: Brad won the race after a great late race battle. He has punched his ticket to the Chase.
  • Kyle Busch: Kyle had another good run in fourth place. He won the Xfinity race the day before and continued the momentum.
  • Austin Dillon: Austin started fifth and finished fifth. He was very consistent. He might be able to win soon if he continues being competitive.
  • Ryan Blaney: Ryan got a great run for his now full-time Wood Brothers team. They started 14th and finished sixth. This team is looking as strong as it did back in the early 90’s.
  • Joey Logano: Joey finished runner up to his teammate Brad Keselowski for a Penske one-two finish. He led a lot of laps. Both cars are looking like Championship contenders again each week.
  • Jimmie Johnson: Jimmie finished third after leading the most laps. He won last week, so not only is he in the Chase he is high in points, too.

HEARTBREAKERS:

  • Cole Whitt: Cole was a possible start-and-park car in 39th place. He would be the first team to do this regularly in Sprint Cup in over a year if this is true.
  • Kyle Larson: Kyle took the worst of the damage on the lap 216 wreck. He finished six laps down. It was his second crash of the day. He also crashed on lap 199.
  • Chase Elliott: Chase was involved with Matt Kenseth in the lap 224 wreck. He was having a good run until he crashed. He was out right on-the-spot.
  • Matt Kenseth: Matt was involved in the lap 224 wreck as well with three other cars. He has slipped back into traffic after leading at one point to crash out on the spot. He finished in 37th place.
  • Regan Smith: Regan was involved in a wreck on lap 216 of the race. He didn’t get as much damage as Kyle Larson did in the wreck but he was still a lap down. He finished in 25th place. He is not off to a good start in his Cup campaign.
  • Aric Almirola: Aric started in seventh place. He was over four miles an hour faster than his team mate in qualifying. Both drivers finished four positions apart outside the top-twenty. They were both one lap down. It was a very poor performance from Aric considering the facts.
