Commercial breakdown, driver focus, and links related to the 2008 Daytona 500

I began recording the times at the Invocation of the race at 3:20 PM, and stopped at the waving of the checkered flag at 6:58 PM (all times are EST). I did not keep records for the pre- and post-race coverage.
Fox was the broadcaster for this event.
Please note that in addition to the commercials and promos listed below there is always a sponsor’s logo in the corner of the screen beside the race ticker, that changes throughout the race.

Notice that while Ryan Newman was the race winner, he only had 65 focuses; but Kyle Busch had the most with 143.

Ed, I have been asked in the past about providing information about laps green/laps yellow/commercials during yellow, etc. I hesitate to do that, however, as I don’t feel I have an accurate way to mark that. I see what you see on the TV screen, and the laps are not always clearly marked. It is also not always marked clearly which lap that yellow starts on, when it goes to green, etc. I certainly don’t want to guess.
CJB, I did not hear the cautions identified as debris cautions. I could have missed it. I did ask my husband about the first one, and he said he thought they said it was a competition caution. I don’t know whether missing that information was the fault of those broadcasting or me; but again, I don’t recall them identifying those cautions as debris cautions.
Ken, ‘focused on’ is when the car and/or driver is on the screen longer than what I call a ‘whiz by’. And the list of drivers mentioned at the bottom of the article are just drivers I have selected for the particular list, and is not the whole list. At the end of the season I will do summaries for all of the drivers (as I did for this past season). Until then, I just do a selective list. If the driver you would like the stats for is not listed, you can copy the list of driver focuses listed by times for each race, and then do a word count in your office program.
Tommy, are you referring to the Sprint.com/speed commercials? I think that’s what you mean, but I’m not sure. If so, they are indeed commercials.
Jason, my notes show the Invocation and the N’tl Anthem, but I don’t see any notes about the call to start engines.
And Larry… many people feel your pain.

Dave, The gopher cam? Now while I just said just showing the race with nothing extra would be fun, I kind of liked that. It is, after all, a nice panoramic shot of the cars coming toward you. I think they could have used the graphic less beside it, but otherwise I thought it was an interesting shot.
And ZuDfunck? Thank you. Yes I do every Cup race. I have done one truck race at the request of my son, Joshua; and one breakdown of Dave Moody’s radio show on Sirius NASCAR Radio as a joke. Other than that, though, I just focus on the Cup races. It is a lot of work, but I enjoy doing it for the fans.
