Commercial breakdown, driver focus, and links related to the Dodge Dealers 400
Posted by Cheryl Walker under Racing ArticleFor those of you NASCAR fans that like stats and love to hate commercials, here is the breakdown from the race on Sunday afternoon.
I began recording the times at the Invocation at 1:30 PM, and stopped at the waving of the checkered flag at 5:59 PM (all times are EST). I did not keep records for the pre- and post-race coverage.
Below the commercial breakdown, be sure to check out how often drivers were focused on during the race. Throughout the breakdown, you can find links to sponsors, or special items-of-interest such as links to contests and movie sites.
ABC was the broadcaster for this event. While the race was sponsored by Dodge, there were only three commercials for Dodge products, compared to Toyota with five, Chevrolet with six, and Ford with seven. It is unusual for the sponsor of the race to have the least number of commercials (compared to similar products).
Additionally, in future races Dr. Jerry Punch may be hesitant to state that ‘following this commercial break we’ll be green to the checkered flag’. Following that announcement during Sunday’s race, there were more cautions including a red flag, culminating in four more commercial breaks, which included twenty two more commercials.

Sep 24, 05:26 PMGet DirecTV and HotPass. In car audio all the time: No gabby commentating! Best of all…when FOX is airing NASCAR, no DW!!! Listening to those guys on FOX was like fingernails in a chalk board. Thank goodness for MRN Radio, and now HotPass on DTV!

Jerry Punch is a walking Chev/GM/Hendrick Commercial! He must earn Big BucKs$$$ for his incessant Chevy Mentions during every broadcast. He must be on Japanese/toyota’s “Mention Money” payroll too for he always seems to mention each Yota car like he does his favored chevs. Funny he never mentions Kenseth,Edwards,Biffle, all the Fords and Dodges in general-He just refers to them as the “#99 Car or #17car” How about an accounting each week of thes hundrds of Jerry Punch’“Special GM/Chev?Toyota Mentions”? It would be amazing how may times he mentions them and totally ignores the rest! I heard the ‘Special Mentions’ are worth approx. $100 each, and for Punch that is a lot of$$$$ each week. Can you shed some light on this? It’s what you do! Thanks, H. C. Risher
