Commercial breakdown, driver focus, and links related to the Chevy Rock & Roll 400
Posted by Cheryl Walker under Racing ArticleFor those of you NASCAR fans that like stats and love to hate commercials, here is the breakdown from the race on Saturday evening.
I began recording the times at the Invocation at 7:30 PM, and stopped at the waving of the checkered flag at 11:32 PM (all times are EST). I did not keep records for the pre- and post-race coverage.
ABC began broadcasting the Cup races with this event. Like ESPN, they occasionally ran a sports ticker at the bottom of the screen during the race. Additionally, there is always a company logo visible in the upper left-hand corner by the race ticker scrolling across the screen.
Below the commercial breakdown, be sure to check out how often drivers were focused on during the race. Throughout the breakdown, you can find links to sponsors, or special items-of-interest such as links to contests and movie sites.

Sep 11, 07:16 PMWhy is it that every time there is a split screen Little E is in one of them. (Mostly fighting for the um-teenth spot.) Jr sells but ESPN/ABC coverage is pretty transparent. They even split screened to him when JJ won and was celebrating! Come on! I bet they will cover JR more next week than any of the chase drivers. Mark my words! And Clint Bowyer is probably gonna have to flip onto his lid to get any mention or tv time next week.

Sep 12, 05:43 AMOh, my GAWD ... 5 missed restarts? That’s all? It felt like more. And the pit coverage was nonexistent. The broadcast team was so bad about missing calls and talking about NOTHING, that I finally muted them and listened to MRN.
If this is the new NASCAR on ABC, heaven help the fans. NASCAR shouldn’t split the season up like this. Just let the networks fight over the entire season and then choose to keep it ALL on Fox.
Crash coverage was horrid, pit coverage was horrid, CONSTANT coverage of Junior was inexplicable, and the cuts to the cut-away car were pointless and, as Ira said, I don’t believe I heard the mention of the Aaron’s Lucky Dog once.
When Kenny Wallace spun late in the race, and ran the right rear into the wall, I swear the ABC boys claimed that he suffered “No damage” to his car even though it was clearly visible on screen.
Oh, and let us not forget the ‘tension’ and the ‘drama’ of Harvick, Kurt, and Junior ALL through the race. When Harvick’s grille was clogged and he started throwing steam, did ANYONE (besides the broadcast crew) think it was going to “damage his engine”? Criminetly!
Do yourself a favor and listen to the MRN broadcast on the radio, and leave the TV guys on mute.
ugh.

Evilnut Says:
Sep 13, 08:48 AMBring back the Fox coverage! ABC/ESPN coverage is very bland, boring & lackluster. There is no energy between the broadcast team, from the booth to the pits. Fox coverage has an edge that keep you listening & watching. I turned off the audio & listened to the Sirius coverage. I do not mind all the commercials, someone has to pay Jeff Gordon’s salary! After all, this is a business. But if the Race is restarting, split screen it back to the race while the commercial is playing at least! I can understand “some” additional coverage for the top 10 points leaders & the guys that are on the cusp of making the chase or the top 10. But the other guys need some coverage too. Pit coverage needs to be an essential part of the race as well as on track incidences. Fox does very good at this. They actually have people that know what they are doing in those areas.
