Commercial breakdown, driver focus, and links related to the Allstate 400 race
Posted by Cheryl Walker under Racing ArticleFor those of you NASCAR fans that like stats and love to hate commercials, here is the breakdown from the race on Sunday afternoon.
I began recording the times at the Invocation at 2:00 PM, and stopped at the waving of the checkered flag at 5:46 PM (all times are EST). I did not keep records for the pre- and post-race coverage.
Please note that in addition to all of the following, there is always a company logo visible in the upper left hand corner by the race ticker scrolling across the screen.
Also, below the commercial breakdown, be sure to check out how often drivers were focused on during the race. Throughout the breakdown, you can find links to sponsors, or special items-of-interest such as links to contests and movie sites.
There are plans in the future for more stats from the race. Once we reach September, when we began doing these breakdowns last year, we will be able to make side-by-side comparisons.

Jul 31, 02:39 AMNASCAR is the only major sport I can think of, that leaves live action to show commercials. By far the hardest sport to follow on TV. Also noticed that ESPN did not show any other cars (Other than Tony) crossing the finish line. This site is amazing, so much hard work to get all of these stats. Thankyou for all of your hard work!

Aug 1, 07:22 AMI agree, still WAY too many commercials but at least ESPN is showing longer race segments. Overall much better than NBC and TNT but just a little better than FOX so there is still some work to be done.
The technical set is awesome! And that engine 3-d computer screen is cool too. The green, blue and yellow squiggly lines or “the air” is a bit weak, could do without it.
Memo to Rusty, you don’t have to tell me that you are telling me.

Greetings:
Thanks again for all the hard work. Yesterday as I was watching the race I thought that there way too many adds, and knew that reading your stats today would tell the whole story. Well I was right, 106 min of race 60 min of adds. A sad state of affairs, if that happened in any other sport the fans would storm the castle and some one would lose a head, but this is NA$CAR and we must put up with it. Sad indeed!
