How often were different drivers focused on during the Subway Fresh Fit 500?
Posted by Cheryl Walker under Racing ArticleThis will be a new addition to the commercial breakdowns that we have been doing for the Cup races. As many NASCAR fans are of the opinion that only certain drivers are featured during the race, we thought we would try to provide statistics that may be helpful in determining whether or not that is true.
Below you will see the blocks of times that the race was being broadcasted. The drivers’ names beside the blocks are the ones that were prominently featured, spoken about, and/or had his stats placed on-screen. If the camera was focusing on them, then we noted it. The drivers are listed according to when they were shown (and if they were racing for a spot, we included the names of all the drivers focused on). They are listed in order of appearance on-screen.
Below the breakdown will be a tally of how many times randomly selected drivers were focused on (and generally the ones that fans cite as the drivers seen more often than others). Is there a bias towards some? Or are they focused on just because they’re some of the best drivers out there? We just present the stats; you decide.
Please note that in the future, this information will be included in the commercial breakdowns, and not as a separate feature.

Apr 22, 08:07 PMFantastic! I love it! Please keep this up!
If you could just add one more thing . . . passes shown. NASCAR has put together all this “loop data” to show how good the competition is (quality passes, etc) but I wonder how many get shown? Also wonder of the passes for the lead that occur, how many get shown?
Keep up the good work.

Apr 22, 10:30 PMI don’t see the relevence of this. They are going to feature the drivers in the top ten at least. If Stanton Barrett is in the top ten then they will feature him I am sure. If he is not in the top ten the seriously, why feature him? Tony Stewart would be featured above at least 30 other drivers because he IS Tony Stewart. If your driver isn’t being featured, is not doing good in the points, etc., then pick another driver and quit whining about it. GO SMOKE!!!!

Apr 23, 07:54 AMHere’s a thought compile a list of drivers that were NEVER mentioned and pass that info along to the fans, networks and SPONSORS. Maybe sometime Fox will wake up and see that there are 43 drivers out there just not just their favorite few. All 43 have fans too!! Paitently waiting for ESPN and hope it get’s better.

Apr 23, 09:45 AMWhat would make this more interesting, would be if the stats were provided for all drivers. I also find it pretty sad that the guy who lead the most laps on the night (almost twice as many as the next guy) was not listed in the “times xxx focused on”.
There is no team the get’s more air time then the Hendrick Boys. Even when Roush had all five of his cars in the chase, HMS was still who had the ‘focus’

Apr 23, 06:04 PMFox should start talking about other drivers than the so called top drivers. For the last couple of weeks drivers such as Tony Raines, Jeff Green, Jamie McMurray and the Penske drivers are having good runs for a change and they are getting no air time. It’s about time that Fox gives these drivers the air time they deserve.
Commercial breakdown for the Subway Fresh Fit 500 So Tony caved? Haven’t we all?

Very interesting. Please keep doing this. It would be great fun to see how the stats progressed from Daytona to the end of the year.
