For those of you NASCAR fans that like stats and love to hate commercials, here is the breakdown from the race on Sunday afternoon. This breakdown is thoroughly unprofessional, and, hopefully, easy-to-understand.
I started recording the times as the Invocation for the race was given at 2:11 PM, and stopped at the waving of the checkered flag at 5:45 PM (all times are EST). I did not keep records for the pre- and post-race coverage.
Please note that in addition to all of the following, there is always a company logo visible in the upper right hand corner by the race ticker scrolling across the screen.
Race and Commercial Breakdown of the Food City 500 03-25-08

Total amount of time these brief promos take during broadcast: app. 2 min. 30 sec.
Also, there is the following race statistics during the broadcast, sponsored by companies:

Items of interest this week: ABC missed more than one restart during the Busch race of Saturday. At one point during Sunday’s race, Fox returned from commercial and did an app. 25 seconds of promos, nearly missing one restart. Just as the cameras focused on the track, the green flag flew and the cars surged forward. Close one. So far this year, I have not recorded Fox missing one restart.

John Says:
Mar 26, 06:44 AMPerhaps this can be derived from your numbers, how many minutes of unadulterated racing were televised, without banners, crawlers, promos and so on?
-
KY1WING Says:
Mar 26, 07:08 AMI thought Fox missed the next to last restart. They were already up to speed when they came back from commercial and looked like they were on the backstretch to me. Could have been wrong on my part as its difficult to tell the FS from the BS on that track.
-
Michael Kiesler Says:
Mar 26, 08:10 AMFox missed at least 2 restarts. On one, they missed the restart and the caution that quickly followed and when they came back, they were under caution again. The other one, when they came back, they said they had ‘just gone green’ but it was at least 2 laps they missed. The front running 5 had already cleared lapped cars and were running single file and you know that doesn’t happen in 1 lap at Bristol.

Tim Says:
Mar 26, 03:02 PMThe camera work is a big problem with FOX. The constant speed shots and the crank it up junk makes it hard to follow the racing going on.

Lorne Says:
Mar 26, 04:19 PMDuring the Busch Race on ABC we missed Carl Edwards doing his backflip which is unsatisfactory on my standards and plus they missed one restart when they came back they were under yellow again and had to explain how it all went down instead of cutting back and showing us the restart unbelievable! As for FOX they were not that bad except for missing a couple restarts but we didnt really miss a lot of high powered NASCAR action. Michael Kiesler is right the lead cars do not clear lap traffic in one lap it takes a while that was the only complaint I had about the FOX broadcast.
THANKS, LORNE

Mell Says:
Mar 26, 09:15 PMDuring the Allstate Good Hands award, the Allstate logo was shown smack dab in middle of the screen. It totally blocked the video showing the incident that led to the award. Way to go FOX.
Why are we driving sponsors out of a sponsor-driven sport? Commercial breakdown for the Goody’s Cool Orange 500

Mar 26, 05:40 AM
fox did miss a restart yesterday, it was the restart for the quickie yellow (for debris) that came right after a caution for an accident, they came back and the track condition was green
