Joshua and Cheryl have been offering up their own personal sets of HeartRacers~HeartBreakers for each race. The moments that stirred them for whatever reason will fall in the HeartRacers category, and anything that makes them wince, cry, or throw stuff will be HeartBreakers. All cawsnjaws readers are invited to add on their own to share with everyone.

The Cup series shared the Pocono racetrack with ARCA this past weekend, while the Busch series raced in Martinsville, and the CTS had a weekend off. With Denny Hamlin on the pole, the question on the minds of many fans was whether or not he could pull off a second consecutive win in the mountains of Pennsylvania.

HeartRacers

  • The action started early, with pole-sitter Hamlin battling with second-place Ryan Newman for the lead on the first lap of the race.
  • Fans that witnessed the caution-mad Busch race of Saturday must have found the concept of NASCAR having to throw a competition caution on lap 20 for this race refreshing.
  • Despite a pit road snafu, Bobby Labonte once again performed well enough to end up in the top ten.
  • Jeff Gordon finishes third, his name is not mentioned in the same sentence as Matt Kenseth, and is his confident and optimistic self in post-race interviews.
  • No matter what else happened, Tony Stewart’s fans had to be thrilled that their favorite driver made his way back into the Top 10.
  • Who couldn’t be happy for rookie Denny Hamlin, who managed to sweep the Pocono races this year?

HeartBreakers

  • The racing gods love to play in the rain sometimes, and they must have found Saturday a great day to romp through the soggy forest around Pocono International Raceway. Happy racing gods; drivers at a disadvantage starting the race with no practice sessions.
  • With the reaction to the Kenseth/Gordon altercation at Chicagoland finally dying down, fans’ blood pressures everywhere got to surge up again, thanks to the spin of Clint Bowyer by Tony Stewart, and the subsequent wreck of Carl Edwards because of it. The message boards will be in flames once again.
  • Double trouble with tires, as Scott Wimmer had to deal with left-fronts blowing two times.
  • Kyle Petty skidded into the wall on lap 65, and spent the rest of the race in a competition with Dale Jr. to stay one position ahead of each other, and not be the race’s caboose.
  • Last week we hypothesized that Michael Waltrip wouldn’t be having Robby Gordon over for dinner. This week, we bet that Jeremy Mayfield won’t be getting any invitations anytime soon.
  • Once again we heave our heaviest HeartBreaker’s sigh for Dale Earnhardt Jr., as he placed 43rd for the second week in a row, and dropped four more spots in the standings. The total frustration and disgust he felt resonated through his interviews following his departure from his car.
