NASCAR racing is one sport where even the most petite among us can be a champion.
When you think of Mark Martin, for example, his racing history stands much higher and taller than his physical being does.
As long as the engineers can design seats close enough for our racing heroes to reach those pedals, the Ward Burtons can always fairly race the Michael Waltrips.
One of the many reasons I believe my Mother, Donna, would make a tremendous impact on NASCAR is because her size belies her strengths as well.
She'd fit right in.
Standing less than five feet tall, her inner strength and fortitude equalizes her stature deficits with the Goliaths of the world.
Speaking of Goliath, I have witnessed her portrayals of David on many occasions. She has slain the most formidably large attackers with a mere pointing of her index finger.
That index finger of hers is as legendary as David's slingshot, by the way. I've personally seen it lodged several inches in my Father's chest, and afterwards him seeming as vanquished as the Biblical giant himself.
Instead of meeting Pres. Mike in the big red trailer, rule-benders and -breakers should have to stand in front of 'Donna, Disabler of Disobedience and Disrespect'. The sign on her wall would read, "Woe To Those That Get the Finger From Me".
Lest you think that my dear mother has but a cold black heart in her chest, let me say that in addition to a no-nonsense attitude about certain things, the size of her heart is as over-sized as her finger appears in my father's chest.
Her acts of kindness are bountiful, and her love and acceptance of the most undeserving souls is legendary. I, myself, have been forgiven and loved by her when I absolutely did not deserve it.
So the 'bad' boys and girls that would be shown to her office could expect mercy, as well as fair justice.
Doesn't she sound perfect? There's a place for her in the racing world, I tell ya!
Today, Wed. Oct. 15th, especially, I honor her and bring her to your attention, as it is her birthday.
The world is a better place because of her, and I don't need to shake a finger at you to make it more true.
Happy Birthday, Mom!! I love you!!
Posted by CAW at October 15, 2003 12:15 AMHere's hoping you had a very special birthday, Donna! Your mother sounds wonderful, Caw and I'll bet she's just as proud of daughter. :)
Posted by: NascarOkie at October 16, 2003 06:54 AMThank you NascarOkie. If people comment on my parental skills, I gotta be truthful and say I learned them from one of the best. I can only hope I've emulated her love and fairness with Joshua half as well as she has with me.
